Matzo Ball Soup and Bagel Chips

Well, getting onto the flight was a nail biting experience. Apparently since last time I visited the States they have introduced a “pay for not having a visa” kind of deal which I had not considered blah, blah.

The flight was long but fairly uneventful, but unusually I had a really hard time getting to sleep so that by the time I reached LAX I was totally zombified.

I made the HUGE mistake of giving into my tiredness and went to bed for a little nap which turned into 4 hours. I decided to go out and have a bit of a look around where I bought a slice of cheese pizza. The real deal, that can’t support it’s own body weight and droops down until you realize you can out smart it by turning it into an envelope and eating strategically.

I woke up this morning at 11 with a bit of a sore throat, annoyed that I was jet lagged.

Last night on my wanderings I found that just down my street was a little Jewish neighborhood that had shops and restaurants. This morning I went to a place that I think was called Cantor’s a big Jewish restaurant and delicatessen which had all kinds of traditional Jewish fare. I bought a Matzo Ball soup which came with Bagel chips.
For anyone who has never eaten a Matzo Ball soup it is a chicken broth with a huge ball of dumpling like dough that has been cooked in the soup. Part of the fun is trying to pin the ball down long enough to scoop out a portion. For this girl who had eaten not much more than a slice of pizza in the last 24 hours it is the most amazing, nourishing, warm dish that fills me with a nostalgia for something that I have never experienced. Or in other words: yum.
I am eating it as I write this now, pausing to dip a bagel chip into the soup to soak up the brothy liquid then cram it into my mouth.

Jeans bulging, I think it might be time to walk of some of these calories.

Also, every second person in this hostel is an actor or on the lookout for work as an actor. Yikes!
